Before Arizona

Before moving to the Phoenix area, the Coyotes were known as the Winnipeg Jets from 1979 to 1996. There originally played in the World Hockey Association from 1972 to 1978 before the league was bought by and merged with the NHL.

The whole time they were in based out of the province of Manitoba, they played in the Winnipeg Arena. They are also known, for drafting Teemu Selanne who broke the record for most goals by a rookie with 76.
